Our School

Willington Lower is a rural school. The original building dates from 1867. An additional classroom and reception area were added in the 1970s and new offices and a staffroom were added in 2001.

It is a co-educational school maintained by the Bedford Borough Council catering for the 4 to 9 age range.

The school is within the Sandy Pyramid and children attending Willington Lower are eligible to attend Alban Church of England Academy at Great Barford when they are 9 years old. (Based on the criteria in Alban Church of England Academy Admissions Policy)

The 3 recently refurbished classrooms each have the latest technology in Smartboards and ICT facilities. We also have a new dedicated library and music room. The reception class is called Squirrels, the mixed age class for Years 1 and 2 is called Acorn and Oak class if for Years 3 and 4

The outside playground areas include, a fenced off activity area for the youngest children with exciting outdoor play opportunities designed to meet the needs of developing children.

At lunchtime children are provided with a host of equipment and are given opportunities to join in different activities such as choir, ICT and netball clubs.

The nearby village hall and field are used each week for sports activities and our afterschool football club. We also use it for travelling theatre productions, tea parties and other activities that require more space.

The chapel is used for concerts and special assemblies. The church is used at the end of each term for our service.

We offer a before and after school facility whereby children can come to Care Club from 7:50am till school starts then from 3:30 – 6pm, this is in the separate building within the secure school site.

Various clubs are available after school for children who wish to participate example football, sports including fencing, street dance and board games.
